Island Attractions

Special Occasions: One of the great attractions to the island is our great views especially of Lake Huron, Are you interested in booking a wedding, reunion, or any other special occasion? Make sure to contact us and we’ll be happy to help!

Rentals: Don’t want to haul all your bikes or kayaks to the island and pay the ferry price to bring them over? Don’t worry, The Hideaway offers a limited number of bikes and kayaks to rent.

Note: Make sure to call us to reserve your rentals for your stay. 

Sightseeing: Sometimes we just want to take the beauty in with our two eyes. Bois Blanc Island has a lot to offer in sightseeing. You can visit the old Coast Guard Chapel or the Bois Blanc Lighthouse. Venture in and through Pointe Aux Pins and see the active schoolhouse, the church, the historical museum, and our little post office, and several of the older homes that make up our village. If you go adventure farther up the island you will be able to get a view of the Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Island from the beach. 

Note: Several of these attractions are on private property. The land and homeowners maintain these buildings for you to enjoy and reflect on the history of the Island. We ask that you be respectful.

Relaxation: I know sounds a little weird right? But our motto is checking in means checking out! On the island, you will feel relaxed and less stressed. It’s a great way to unplug from everything. Another great way to relax is having a fire at one of our many great fire pits.

Cookout: We offer usage of our grill to all our guests in scheduled blocks. Enjoy a cook-out with your family and friends.

Wildlife: We enjoy all the wildlife we have on the island including deer come into our backyard. If you’re sitting on the dock or have a room facing the back you will have a great view of the deer visiting. Bird watching is very popular on the island with the different types of birds we have on the island. Make sure to bring your binoculars!

Hiking: One of the great attractions on the island is hiking. Doesn’t matter if you’re an avid hiker. The island has trails for everyone of all levels of hiking. If you don’t feel like venturing off on the island trails, you’re more than welcome to explore our 25 acres filled with wildlife such as deer, birds, and squirrels. 

Photography: Are you interested in taking that once-in-a-lifetime picture? Bois Blanc Island is one of those places that is great for photography. Bois Blanc Island has a lot of unique beaches, sunsets, lakes, wildlife, and historical monuments for you to take advantage of.

Swimming: We have 600 feet of Lake Huron beach frontage, offers shallow water swimming, or bask in the sun on a float in the crystal clear water. Collect rocks as you snorkel the waters of Lake Huron. The island also has a lot of other great public beaches to visit such as Snow Beach, another great swimming spot on the east end of the island.

Inland Lakes is another great option for swimming.

A Night Out: 21 or over? You can bring your own alcohol (have to follow our policies) with you or enjoy a night out to the bar just down the road with food and drinks. 

Hot tub: The Hideaway offers all our guests the use of our 6 people seats hot tub to relax. 

Note: Due to Covid-19, we are only doing 30 minutes scheduled blocks for our guests. Ask our Inn Keepers about the schedule. 

Mackinac Island: Do you want to take a day trip to Mackinac Island? Great Lakes Air offers flights over to Mackinac Island. Get picked up by carriage tours from the airport and enjoy a horse and carriage ride into town. Shop for souvenirs, dine, bike around the island, and most importantly don’t forget to pick up some freshly made Island fudge. Tour the fort, ride around the island before returning to the airport for your flight back. This is great for anyone that wants to spend the day being more touristy.

Air Tour: Interested in seeing the island from the air? Great Lakes Air does a great air tour! This is a great way to see the whole island from the island along with other world famous landmarks such as the Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Island.

Make sure to make a reservation in advance!

Fishing: Bring your fishing gear, Lake Huron boasts some of the best fishing around with Lake Trout, Steelhead, Salmon, Lake Perch, Bass, and Walleye. 

The Island contains inland lakes such as Lake Mary, Thompson Lake, and Twin Lakes that are full of Perch, Bass, Northern Pike, and Blue Gills.

Both will pick you up from the docks here on the Island. As with any of the many fishing charter companies in the Straights of Mackinac, book early so, you don’t miss out!

Hunting: You can hunt only animals in season and with the right tags from the DNR. Make sure it’s public land and not private-owned land. The island has wildlife that ranges from deer, rabbits, squirrels, ducks, geese, and other animals. Not interested in hunting animals? If in-season mushrooms are another great option!

Bring your own toys: We encourage you to bring your own toys such as jet skis, boats, kayaks, canoes, ATVs, etc. 

We just ask you to be respectful of the island and to follow all The Hideaway and Island rules to ensure all residents and our guests are safe.
